Supporters Protest FIR Against Pastor Bajinder Singh, Demand Fair Probe
Supporters of Pastor Bajinder Singh staged a protest outside the office of the Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) on Wednesday evening, opposing the recent registration of an FIR against him in an assault case involving a woman. The case was filed at Mullanpur police station on Tuesday.
Hundreds of protesters arrived in buses and gathered outside the SSP office, blocking access to the main gate of the complex. To maintain law and order, a heavy police presence was deployed, with personnel called in from multiple police stations across the district.
The protesters voiced their anger over what they called a "hasty" filing of the FIR without considering Pastor Bajinder’s version of events. They claimed that a complaint had already been submitted against the woman who filed the case, but the police had failed to take any action.
Senior police officers, including Mohali SP (Rural) Manpreet Singh and DSP City-2 Harsimran Singh Bal, held discussions with the demonstrators. They assured the crowd that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) would be formed to probe the matter impartially.
Pastor Bajinder Singh has been booked on charges of assault, wrongful restraint, and criminal intimidation. The alleged incident took place at his church in Baroudi village, New Chandigarh, on February 14. The 40-year-old woman, a resident of Kharar, filed a complaint at the Mohali SSP office, following which police began verifying a video allegedly showing the pastor slapping and pushing her.
However, supporters of Bajinder Singh have contested the video’s authenticity, claiming it is AI-generated and should not have been used as the basis for an FIR.
Addressing the media, protest leader Surjit Singh Thapar said, “This matter must be investigated thoroughly. Many of our complaints remain pending. The police have assured action within 24 hours. If our demands are not addressed, the entire Masih community will take to the streets in two days.”
SP (Rural) Manpreet Singh responded by stating, “All complaints will be reviewed and acted upon as part of the ongoing investigation.”
