UK Couple's Death in New Zealand Investigated as Suspected Murder-Suicide

New Zealand police say the deaths of a British couple in Wellington are being treated as a murder-suicide, with no other suspects currently sought.

New Zealand police have launched a murder-suicide investigation following the discovery of two British nationals at a property in Roseneath, a suburb of Wellington, on Monday.

The couple, whose identities have not yet been released, were found deceased after officers conducted a welfare check prompted by concerns from a family member. Officers were forced to enter the home on Palliser Road, where they found the bodies.

Detective Inspector Haley Ryan confirmed that police are not seeking anyone else in connection with the incident. Authorities are now appealing to the public for any information or relevant CCTV footage that could assist in the investigation.

The pair reportedly relocated from the UK to New Zealand in late 2024. Neighbor Emma Prestidge told Radio New Zealand that the couple had recently moved from London and were in the process of establishing a new life in the country.

“They had finally packed up their lives in London and had all their belongings in a shipping container. They were planning to settle here for good,” Prestidge said. “It’s heartbreaking—they were ready for a new chapter.”

New Zealand Police said they are supporting the family through what they described as a “tragic event” and emphasized the family's request for privacy during this time of grief.

The UK Foreign Office stated that it had not been contacted regarding the incident, but confirmed that staff remain available to provide support to British nationals abroad around the clock.

The case has been referred to the New Zealand coroner, and further details are expected pending official findings.
