Gardaí Board Vessel After Stena Line Ferry Docks at Rosslare Europort
A woman has died following an incident on a ferry that arrived in Co Wexford, Ireland, on Tuesday.
Authorities have confirmed that a man was arrested in connection with the woman’s death on board the passenger ferry.
The incident occurred on the 2pm Stena Line sailing from Fishguard, Wales, to Rosslare Europort.
Emergency services were alerted shortly after 5pm, prompting Gardaí to board the vessel upon its arrival.
A Garda spokesperson stated: “The woman was later pronounced deceased, and her body remains at the scene.
“A man has been arrested in relation to the investigation and is currently being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda station in the eastern region.
“The scene has been secured for a technical and forensic examination.”
Authorities confirmed that the Office of the State Pathologist and the local coroner have been informed. A postmortem examination will be scheduled, with its findings expected to influence the direction of the investigation.
A senior investigating officer has been appointed to lead the inquiry, and a family liaison officer has been assigned to support the deceased’s relatives.
Gardaí continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
A Stena Line spokesperson confirmed that the event took place on the 2pm sailing from Fishguard to Rosslare, stating: “This is a police matter, so please direct all further questions to the Gardaí.”
Following the incident, a scheduled sailing from Rosslare to Fishguard was cancelled.
