The Nanakshahi calendar for Samvat 557 (2025-26) was officially released

The Nanakshahi calendar for Samvat 557 (2025-26) was officially released on Thursday at the Akal Takht Secretariat in the presence of Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh and Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) General Secretary Kulwant Singh Mannan.

Giani Raghbir Singh urged the Sikh community to follow the newly released calendar to ensure unity and uniformity in observing religious occasions. This calendar is a modified version of the original Nanakshahi calendar introduced in 2003, which was later amended in 2010 and approved by Akal Takht. Since the amendment, there have been discrepancies in the observance of Gurpurbs, with some occasions falling on different dates or even twice a year. While the SGPC adheres to the amended version, other Sikh organizations, including the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, and various Sikh groups in the US and Delhi, continue to follow the original 2003 version.

To address these differences, Giani Raghbir Singh instructed the SGPC's Dharam Parchar Committee (DPC) and 'parcharaks' to ensure the Akal Takht-approved SGPC calendar is available at every gurdwara, both in urban and rural areas. The newly released calendar spans three pages and includes dates for significant Sikh events, such as the 350th anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh's Gurta Gaddi and the 350th shaheedi divas of Guru Teg Bahadur. The calendar also features pictorial references to key religious sites.

Additionally, Mannan highlighted that the SGPC will observe the centenary of the martyrdom of Guru Gobind Singh’s disciples—Bhai Mati Das, Bhai Sati Das, and Bhai Dyala—who sacrificed their lives but remained steadfast in their devotion to the Guru. This commemoration will take place at Anandpur Sahib. The calendar also showcases images of important gurdwaras such as Gurdwara Rakab Ganj, Gurdwara Kesgarh Sahib, and Gurdwara Seesganj Sahib, signifying the Gurus' sacrifices and contributions for the Sikh Panth.
