Sukhbir Singh Badal Moves High Court Over "Murderous Attack" Probe, Alleges Political Bias

Former Deputy Chief Minister and Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) president Sukhbir Singh Badal has approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court, alleging political interference and bias in the investigation into an alleged attempt on his life outside Ghantaghar Deori near the Golden Temple in Amritsar on December 4, 2024.

In his petition, filed through advocates Arshdeep Singh and Arshdeep Singh Kler, Badal claimed that he was performing sewa at the time of the attack, which was thwarted by the swift action of his security personnel. He alleged that the subsequent investigation has been compromised by ulterior motives and demanded that the case be handed over to an independent agency for a fair and impartial probe.

Badal argued that the police intentionally misrepresented facts in both the FIR and the final report, thereby undermining the seriousness of the crime. He pointed out that the FIR was lodged after an "unreasonable delay" based on the statement of an individual who was not an eyewitness. Furthermore, he said his own statement was never recorded, indicating a deliberate attempt to misdirect the investigation.

According to the petition, the accused is a known history-sheeter with alleged links to terrorism, who was granted bail due to lapses in the investigation. Badal further alleged that CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts pointed to a larger conspiracy involving multiple individuals, who have not been properly investigated.

"The investigating agency seems to be working under political pressure, jeopardizing the integrity of the probe," Badal stated. He urged the High Court to intervene and transfer the case to an independent investigative body to ensure justice is served without political influence.

The High Court is expected to review the petition and determine the next course of action.
