Prime Suspect in Grenade Attack Identified, Manhunt Underway

The prime suspect in the grenade attack on BJP leader Manoranjan Kalia’s residence reportedly used a stolen mobile phone and remained at the Jalandhar railway station for nearly two hours after the incident, which occurred in the early hours of April 8, according to police sources.

Authorities have identified the suspect’s face through CCTV footage, though his full identity is still under investigation.

The phone used by the accused was traced back to Shadir, a resident of Solian village in Budaun district, Uttar Pradesh. Shadir had previously filed a police complaint regarding the theft of his phone, confirming he had no connection to the case.

Further investigation revealed that the suspect used the stolen phone to make a UPI transaction of ₹3,500 to the cousin of an e-rickshaw driver. Both the cousin and the driver have been arrested for aiding the accused by withdrawing the cash and handing it over.

CCTV footage from Platform No. 2 at Jalandhar City railway station captured the accused loitering in the area for approximately two hours following the blast.

During the attack, the suspect was wearing a black shirt, black trousers, and a cap. Later, another video surfaced showing him near the Domoria overbridge, where he had changed into a light purple shirt and white trousers. Police believe he carried a change of clothes in a bag, which was visible in earlier footage, and possibly discarded it before arriving at the station.

“Our teams are actively searching for the accused in the vicinity of Uttar Pradesh. We cannot disclose more details at this stage,” said an investigating officer.

Special DGP Arpit Shukla added, “All information will be shared once the main accused is in custody.”
