SIT Files Five New FIRs, Arrests Two More Fraudulent Travel Agents

The Punjab Police's Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by ADGP Praveen Sinha of NRI Affairs, has intensified its crackdown on fraudulent immigration consultants. The team registered five new FIRs and arrested two more travel agents involved in scams targeting unsuspecting individuals.

This brings the total number of FIRs to 15 and arrests to three. The latest FIRs were filed against agents who promised victims illegal entry into the US, only for them to face deportation. These cases were registered in Tarn Taran, SAS Nagar, Moga, and Sangrur over the past two days.

In Tarn Taran, a complaint filed at Patti police station revealed that an agent operating from Chandigarh and Yamuna Nagar took Rs 44 lakh from a victim, promising legal US immigration, but instead routed the person through Nicaragua and Mexico. In SAS Nagar, two agents, Mukul and Gurjinder Antaal, were booked at Majri police station for taking Rs 45 lakh from a victim, only to send him through Colombia and Mexico.

In Moga, an FIR at Dharamkot police station named Sukhwinder Singh, Talwinder Singh, Pritam Kaur, and Gurpreet Singh of Ekam Travels in Chandigarh. They lured a victim with promises of a false work permit and direct flights to the US for Rs 45 lakh.

A fourth FIR was filed in Sangrur at Khanauri police station against Angrej Singh and Jagjit Singh, who operated a visa and travel company in Haryana. They cheated a victim of Rs 50 lakh.

The fifth FIR was lodged at Goindwal Sahib police station against an agent named Goldy, who operated near IGI Airport in Delhi. Goldy deceived a person into paying Rs 45 lakh for what was promised as a legal entry into the US.

Angrej Singh and Jagjit Singh have been arrested by Sangrur police.

Meanwhile, in Amritsar, an FIR was registered against immigration agent Arsh Kahlon, who operated from Haryana. Kahlon was booked based on the complaint of 22-year-old Harpreet Singh from Chhota Ghanshampura village. Harpreet was among 117 illegal immigrants deported by the US, with a military flight landing at Amritsar Airport on February 15.
