Rising India-Pakistan Tensions Cast Shadow Over Wedding Plans in Border Areas
As tensions between India and Pakistan continue to escalate following Operation Sindoor, anxiety is mounting among civilians—particularly those with weddings planned in the coming days.
In Punjab’s Fazilka district, Gurinder Singh, a resident of Muktsar, expressed concern over his nephew’s wedding, scheduled for May 12. “We’re all perplexed,” he said. “Everything is in place—the preparations, the invitations, and the venue. But the current situation has left us deeply uneasy.”
Gurinder added that blackout drills had already begun in the area, intensifying the atmosphere of uncertainty. “The execution of Operation Sindoor on Wednesday made things feel even more serious. On top of that, schools in the border districts have been closed, which only adds to the worry,” he said.
A local wedding hall owner echoed the concerns. “May typically sees only a handful of weddings, but those that are planned are now under a cloud of concern. Families are nervous, unsure whether to go ahead or postpone.”
Despite the growing unease, government officials have advised the public to stay calm, stressing that there is no immediate cause for panic and that security forces and civil administration are fully prepared to handle any eventuality.
With emotions running high and preparations in limbo, families along the border are keeping a close eye on developments, hoping for stability in the days ahead.
