Punjab govt again urges SC to take up its plea on rural funds
The Punjab Government on Tuesday appealed to the Supreme Court for an expedited hearing of its plea, seeking the immediate release of over Rs 1,000 crore from the Centre, citing unpaid Market Fees and Rural Development Fees (RDF).
"My season starts today, and the condition of the mandis and agrarian societies in Punjab is deteriorating," said Punjab Advocate General Gurminder Singh before a Bench led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud.
Although the case was scheduled for Tuesday, Singh pointed out that it was unlikely to be heard due to the Bench's involvement in another ongoing matter.
In response to Singh's request to prioritize the Punjab Government's case, the CJI assured that it would be given a "higher position" on the list of cases for hearing.
Over the past few months, the Punjab Government has repeatedly urged the Supreme Court to address its plea for the immediate release of over Rs 1,000 crore in alleged dues from the Centre for Market Fees and RDF.
