Punjab Police to Transfer Amritpal Singh's Seven Aides from Dibrugarh to Punjab

Seven associates of Waris Punjab De leader Amritpal Singh, who were recently released from Dibrugarh Central Jail in Assam following the withdrawal of National Security Act (NSA) charges, have been re-arrested by Punjab Police in connection with a 2023 attack on a police station near Amritsar. Officials confirmed that they will be flown to Punjab on Thursday.

Re-Arrest and Transit Remand

After their NSA detention period expired, Punjab Police immediately re-arrested them and secured a transit remand from a Dibrugarh court. A 25-member Punjab Police team, which had been stationed in Dibrugarh for several days, has been overseeing the legal transfer process.

"All seven detainees will be flown to Punjab under tight security. Punjab Police have completed the necessary legal procedures for their transfer," a senior official told PTI.

Travel Arrangements

The seven detainees—Kulwant Singh, Harjeet Singh, Gurinder Pal Singh, Gurmeet Singh, Bhagwant Singh, Daljit Singh Kalsi, and Basant Singh—will be flown to Punjab in two separate commercial flights.

  • Three detainees have already been taken to Mohanbari Airport and will be transported via IndiGo Airlines on an early flight.
  • The remaining four will be sent on a later flight the same day.

Future Transfers

Meanwhile, three more detainees, including Amritpal Singh himself, are expected to be transferred from Dibrugarh to Punjab by mid-2025, according to officials.

Punjab Police officials, led by SP Harinder Singh Gill, have been handling the legal formalities to facilitate the smooth transfer of the detainees.

With these latest developments, Punjab authorities continue to tighten their grip on Waris Punjab De’s leadership and its associates.
