Punjab Govt to Introduce Vocational Courses in 40 Schools Under Hunar Sikhiya Programme
The Punjab government has selected 40 schools to introduce four new vocational courses at the senior secondary level. These courses will cover digital marketing, financial services and insurance, healthcare, and beauty and wellness.
As part of the Hunar Sikhiya Schools programme, the state aims to enroll 6,400 students in Class XI during the current financial year. Each school will offer 160 seats across the four vocational courses.
Students enrolled in these courses will also be required to complete three foundational subjects focused on communication skills, soft skills, and digital tool proficiency. Education Minister Harjot Bains highlighted that the curriculum has been designed in collaboration with industry experts from institutions like the Indian Institute of Delhi, Cambridge University Press and Assessment, and Max Healthcare.
“There will be 160 seats per school, and every year, 6,400 trained students will graduate under this initiative,” said a senior government official overseeing the pilot project.
Prior to the programme’s launch, the Education Department organized a training camp in Fatehgarh Sahib for the principals of selected schools and district vocational coordinators to ensure smooth implementation.
