Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann Inaugurates City Surveillance and Traffic Management System
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann officially inaugurated the long-awaited City Surveillance and Traffic Management System at the Sector-79 police station on Thursday.
The project, which began development in February 2024, faced multiple delays, missing its initial deadlines in September, November, and January 2025, before finally being launched today.
As part of the ₹17.70-crore initiative, 405 CCTV cameras have been installed at 20 key intersections across the city to enhance surveillance, curb traffic violations, and improve road safety. The system aims to reduce accidents and fatalities, a pressing concern for Mohali, which recorded 312 deaths in 536 road accidents last year. So far, 20 lives have been lost in road accidents this year.
Authorities hope the new surveillance system will help enforce traffic regulations more effectively, ultimately making the city’s roads safer.
