Nangal to Be Developed as Major Tourist Hub; Jhajjar Bachauli Wildlife Sanctuary to Become Eco-Tourism Destination
In a major push to boost tourism in Punjab, the state government has announced plans to transform Nangal into a premier tourist destination, with a special focus on developing the Jhajjar Bachauli Wildlife Sanctuary in Sri Anandpur Sahib as an eco-tourism hotspot. The initiative was unveiled as part of the 2025-26 state Budget presented by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema.
The government has allocated a dedicated budget for preparations to mark the 350th Martyrdom Anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji, underscoring the importance of Sri Anandpur Sahib as a center of religious and historical significance.
Terming the Budget a “landmark,” Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said an initial outlay of Rs 10 crore has been set aside for the development of Nangal. “This initiative will upgrade local infrastructure, highlight regional attractions, and create employment opportunities, particularly in the hospitality sector,” Bains said.
As part of the plan, the Jhajjar Bachauli Wildlife Sanctuary in Sri Anandpur Sahib will be developed into Punjab’s first eco-tourism destination where visitors can observe leopards and other wildlife in their natural surroundings. “This will be a one-of-a-kind experience for nature and wildlife lovers,” Bains added.
The Education Minister also expressed gratitude to the Punjab Government for its special budget allocation to commemorate the 350th Martyrdom Anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji. He noted that Sri Anandpur Sahib will see focused efforts in infrastructure and cultural development to honour the historic occasion and to accommodate increased footfall from devotees and tourists alike.
