Mohali Court Sentences 'Yeshu Yeshu' Pastor Bajinder Singh to Life in 2018 Rape Case

A court in Punjab’s Mohali has sentenced self-styled pastor Bajinder Singh to life imprisonment in connection with a 2018 rape case. The verdict was delivered on Tuesday by Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) Vikrant Kumar.

Singh was convicted on March 28 under sections 376 (rape), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. Five other individuals who had also been accused in the case were acquitted.

The case originated from a complaint lodged by a woman at Zirakpur police station in Mohali in 2018. The complainant alleged that Singh had raped her under the false promise of sending her abroad.

In light of the high-profile nature of the case, stringent security measures were put in place at the court complex ahead of the sentencing.

Singh, who rose to fame through viral videos of his sermons and is popularly known as the "Yeshu Yeshu" pastor, remains a controversial figure. His sermons often featured the chant “Mera Yeshu Yeshu,” which became a hallmark of his preaching style.

Meanwhile, a separate case involving allegations of sexual harassment by a follower from Kapurthala is still pending and has yet to come up in court.
