Lower Paddy Arrivals Mark Day 1 of Procurement at Jalandhar Mandis
Several mandis in the city saw minimal paddy arrivals on Tuesday, with almost no activity at the grain market on the first day of procurement. The usual hustle and bustle of farmers was noticeably absent.
Officials from the Mandi Board mentioned that significant arrivals typically begin around October 8-9. However, the reduced arrivals were attributed to a strike called by the arhtiyas and laborers.
Laborers were seen resting on sacks of paddy, with some expressing the impact of the strike.
“No paddy arrived today,” said Manish Yadav, a laborer from Bihar who regularly comes to Punjab during harvest season. "The strike is the reason no farmers brought their produce today."
