HRTC Suspends 10 Punjab Routes Amid Attacks; Himachal CM Seeks Action
The Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) has suspended 10 bus routes to Punjab following repeated attacks on its buses over the past two days. In response to the incidents, Himachal Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu stated that he had spoken with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, who assured strict action against those responsible.
“The DGP-level officers from both states will coordinate to address the issue,” Sukhu said, adding that police security would be provided to HRTC buses if necessary.
Addressing the matter in the state assembly, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, who also serves as Transport Minister, confirmed that the Himachal government is in touch with Punjab authorities. He added that HRTC officials have been stationed at key bus stands in Punjab to monitor the situation closely.
Agnihotri detailed one of the incidents, stating that an HRTC bus was stopped by an unregistered car on the Kharar flyover, where miscreants vandalized the vehicle, shattering its window panes. An FIR has been registered at Kharar police station, and the Mohali SSP has assured that security will be provided for HRTC buses.
In a separate incident near Sirhind, stones were pelted at another HRTC bus, further escalating concerns over the safety of passengers and transport services.
The Himachal government continues to monitor the situation, working in coordination with Punjab authorities to ensure the safety of public transport.
