Accused in Seehan Daud Kidnapping Case Injured in Police Encounter

An accused in the Seehan Daud child kidnapping case was injured in police firing on Friday morning during an encounter with officers from the CIA wing of Malerkotla. The police claimed the firing was done in self-defense.

Harpreet Singh, a resident of Bathan in Amargarh, was arrested along with Ravi Bhinder of Jaggowal village. He sustained a bullet injury to his leg when he allegedly attempted to escape after retrieving a pistol from the outskirts of Salar village. No police personnel were injured in the exchange of fire.

The incident followed an earlier encounter in Mandaur village, Nabha, on Thursday, where three Patiala policemen were injured. Jaspreet Singh, the main accused in the kidnapping case, was critically injured in the shootout and later succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in Patiala.

According to Malerkotla SSP Gagan Ajit Singh, Harpreet was injured while trying to escape from custody during a follow-up operation to recover illegal weapons near Salar village.

The encounters occurred a day after police successfully rescued seven-year-old Bhawkirat Singh from Seehan Daud within 24 hours of his kidnapping. The child was abducted on Wednesday evening by Harpreet and Ravi, who took him on a motorcycle.

Jaspreet, the prime accused, was killed in retaliatory police action after he attempted to flee in an SUV and opened fire on officers at Mandaur village on Nabha Road. The Patiala police were able to locate and recover the child based on information provided by Harpreet and Ravi during interrogation.

Recognizing the efforts of the police team, DGP Gaurav Yadav announced a cash reward of ₹10 lakh and promotions for the officers involved in the successful operation.
