PM Modi Receives Traditional Bihari Welcome in Mauritius with ‘Geet Gawai’ Ceremony
Mauritius: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was accorded a warm and traditional Bihari welcome in Mauritius today with a ‘Geet Gawai’ performance held in his honor.
‘Geet Gawai’ is a traditional Bhojpuri musical ensemble that reflects the rich cultural heritage brought to Mauritius by women from India’s Bhojpuri-speaking regions. Recognizing its cultural significance, UNESCO inscribed ‘Geet Gawai’ on its Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in December 2016.
Expressing gratitude for the warm reception, Modi said, “Deeply touched by the warm welcome from the Indian community in Mauritius. Their strong connection to Indian heritage, culture, and values is truly inspiring. This bond of history and heart continues to thrive across generations.”
