British Woman, 90, Found ‘Starved to Death’ at Home in Spain
A 90-year-old British woman and her 63-year-old son have been found dead in their home in Spain.
The bodies were discovered in Alhaurín el Grande, a town located about 30 minutes inland from the Costa del Sol resort of Fuengirola. Concerns were raised by local social services, prompting the police to conduct a welfare check.
Upon arrival, officers were forced to break into the residence, where they found the elderly woman, who is believed to have died from starvation, and her son, who reportedly passed away from natural causes. According to Spain’s Civil Guard, both deaths were due to natural causes, and there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the case.
The woman's son was a registered caregiver, though it remains unclear whether he had underlying health issues that may have contributed to the situation.
This tragic discovery follows another case just days earlier, in which two British pensioners, aged 82 and 74, were found dead in their home on the Costa Blanca. Their bodies were discovered last Thursday in San Fulgencio, a residential area popular with retirees.
Firefighters found the man and woman—who were friends—after being alerted by social services. Authorities reported no signs of violence in the home. Post-mortem examinations confirmed that both had died of natural causes. However, they were known to suffer from chronic illnesses and had been identified as vulnerable by social services.
These incidents highlight the increasing concerns surrounding elderly individuals living alone, particularly those in need of support and care.
