Canadian rapper Tory Lanez hospitalized after being viciously attacked by a fellow inmate at a California prison.Canadian rapper Tory Lanez, legally known as Daystar Peterson, was hospitalized on Monday after a brutal stabbing inside the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi, approximately 75 miles north of Los Angeles. According to prison officials, the 32-year-old was attacked by another inmate in a housing unit at around 7:20 a.m. local time.
Lanez sustained 14 stab wounds across multiple areas of his body, including his back, torso, head, and face. An update posted to his official Instagram account revealed that both of his lungs had collapsed as a result of the assault. He was initially placed on a breathing apparatus but is now reportedly breathing on his own.
"Despite the pain, he is talking normally, in good spirits, and deeply thankful to God that he is pulling through," the Instagram post stated.
Pedro Calderón Michel, spokesperson for California’s Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, confirmed the incident and said prison staff provided immediate first aid before Lanez was transferred to a nearby medical facility for further treatment. Authorities have launched an investigation into the attack, but no motive has yet been disclosed.
Lanez is currently serving a 10-year sentence for shooting fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion in 2020. The shooting occurred after the two left a party at Kylie Jenner’s Hollywood home and began arguing in a vehicle. During her testimony, Megan, whose real name is Megan Pete, said Lanez told her to "dance" before firing at the ground. She was injured and required surgery to remove bullet fragments from her foot.
Despite being found guilty of three felony firearm offenses, Lanez has maintained his innocence and refused to apologize. His conviction in 2023 stirred significant controversy in the hip-hop community, with celebrities like 50 Cent and Iggy Azalea weighing in and some even writing letters to the court seeking leniency in his sentencing.
Lanez had a prolific music career prior to his imprisonment, with seven U.S. top 10 albums to his name. He has recently hinted at releasing a new project titled Peterson, created while behind bars.
