Man Arrested Following €10.6M Cocaine Seizure in Ireland
Large Drug Bust Uncovered in Sophisticated Vehicle Concealment
A man in his 60s has been arrested in the Republic of Ireland after Gardaí seized cocaine worth an estimated €10.6 million (£8.4 million).
Authorities discovered 152kg of cocaine—pending forensic analysis—hidden in what they described as a "sophisticated vehicle concealment" on Tuesday. The seizure took place when a heavy goods vehicle was intercepted on the M9 motorway in County Kilkenny shortly after 10:00 local time.
As part of the operation, Gardaí also carried out searches at two business premises and a residential property in Waterford.
The drug bust was conducted under Operation Tara, an ongoing national initiative targeting drug trafficking and organised crime. Officers from the National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, along with Waterford Drug and Crime units, led the operation with support from the Revenue Customs Service, the Garda Dog Unit, and the Stolen Motor Vehicle Investigation Unit.
Assistant Commissioner Angela Willis, who heads the Garda Organised and Serious Crime Unit, described the seizure as another step in their continued efforts to dismantle criminal networks.
"This is a further example of our commitment to targeting the enablers and facilitators of organised crime," she stated.
The investigation remains ongoing.
