SGPC Removes Giani Raghbir Singh as Akal Takht Jathedar
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has relieved Giani Raghbir Singh from his position as the Jathedar of Akal Takht. The decision was made during the executive body meeting held on Friday.
Additionally, Giani Sultan Singh has been removed from his role as the Jathedar of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib. However, both Giani Raghbir Singh and Giani Sultan Singh will continue serving as Head Granthi and Granthi, respectively, at the Golden Temple.
Announcing the changes, SGPC executive body member Jaswant Singh Purain stated that Giani Kuldeep Singh Gadgaj has been appointed as the new Jathedar of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib. He will also serve as the acting Jathedar of the Akal Takht.
Furthermore, Sant Baba Tek Singh has been appointed as the Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib.
Meanwhile, the committee has deferred a decision regarding the resignation of SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami.
Giani Kuldeep Singh Gadgaj, 40, has been a ‘katha vachak’ (religious preacher) since 2001.
