Punjab BJP General Secretary Jagmohan Singh Raju Resigns, Cites Organisational Irregularities
In a major setback for the Punjab BJP, Jagmohan Singh Raju, the party’s general secretary, has resigned from his post, citing serious organisational irregularities and friction with district BJP president Harvinder Singh Sandhu. Raju, a former bureaucrat and the BJP’s 2022 Assembly candidate from Amritsar East, submitted a detailed four-page resignation letter outlining grave allegations against senior state party officials.
In his letter, Raju specifically named BJP organisational general secretary Srivastava and Amritsar district president Harvinder Singh Sandhu, accusing them of violating party protocols and misusing their authority. He also criticized their management style and behaviour, alleging that it has fueled growing unrest among party workers.
Raju had previously clashed with Sandhu during the Municipal Corporation elections, openly opposing the distribution of party tickets. He had also independently advocated for granting Amritsar the status of a “Holy City,” reaching out to the government and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) without the party’s backing — a move that highlighted internal rifts.
His resignation comes at a critical juncture as the BJP prepares for internal organisational elections, adding further strain to the already turbulent state unit. Appointed in September 2023, Raju is the first Punjab BJP general secretary to resign mid-term from a position traditionally held for a full tenure.
