Ludhiana Police Demolish Illegal Properties of Two Drug Peddlers, More Crackdowns Planned
In a major crackdown on drug traffickers, Ludhiana police have demolished the illegal properties of two notorious drug peddlers, with more such actions planned in the coming weeks.
A team led by Police Commissioner Kuldeep Singh Chahal razed the illegal construction of Sonu in Talwandi village on Monday night, followed by the demolition of Rahul Hans’s property at Bhai Himmat Singh Nagar near Dugri on Tuesday morning.
Properties Linked to Drug Trade Seized
According to police officials, both properties were built using proceeds from drug trafficking. The authorities have also attached the properties belonging to the two accused.
Commissioner Chahal stated that illegal properties of at least 78 more drug peddlers in Ludhiana would soon be demolished, as part of a larger initiative to curb the drug menace in the region.
Background of the Accused
A senior police official revealed that Sonu and his family had been engaged in the drug trade for years, with six criminal cases already registered against him. He is currently absconding.
Meanwhile, Rahul Hans was arrested last year by Dugri police after the recovery of over 41,000 drug tablets and Rs 2.15 lakh in drug money. He is currently lodged in jail.
First-of-Its-Kind Action Against Smugglers
Speaking to The Tribune, Chahal emphasized that this was the first time such a large-scale demolition drive had been undertaken against drug traffickers.
An ongoing survey has identified 78 more drug peddlers who have constructed illegal buildings using illicit funds. These properties were built without permission from the Municipal Corporation and are now marked for demolition.
Authorities have already attached properties worth Rs 94 crore linked to 112 drug smugglers, signaling a firm stance against organized crime and drug networks in Ludhiana.
