Court Summons Six, Including Four Police Officers, in Nine-Year-Old Murder Case

A local court has summoned six individuals, including four police officers, to stand trial in a nine-year-old murder case involving charges of murder and criminal conspiracy. The case, dating back to May 2016, has been marred by allegations of police misconduct and fabricated narratives.

Family Alleges Staged Encounter

The case was brought to light by Manjit Kaur, the mother of the deceased Ajmer Singh, a Kabaddi player and liquor vendor, who claimed that her son was falsely labeled as a gangster before being killed in a staged encounter.

In her complaint, Kaur alleged that influential individuals, including Dharampal alias Dhammi and Amarjit Singh Mehta, both liquor contractors from Bathinda, conspired with police officers to eliminate her son due to business disputes.

Investigation and Court Findings

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed in 2021 to probe the incident. Initially, the SIT concluded that Ajmer Singh was shot in self-defence by the police. However, the court identified inconsistencies in the police's account, casting serious doubt on their self-defence claim.

With the latest court order, the accused individuals now face legal proceedings, as the case moves towards trial amid renewed scrutiny over police accountability and alleged extrajudicial killings.
