Amritsar Rural Police Seize 23-kg Heroin in Major Crackdown on Smuggling

In a significant breakthrough against trans-border smuggling during the ongoing ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign, launched under the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Amritsar Rural Police have seized a 23-kg heroin consignment from Devi Daspura village in Jandiala.

Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav revealed on Wednesday that preliminary investigations indicated the consignment was linked to a smuggling network operated by USA-based smuggler Jasmit Singh, alias Lucky.

In connection with the case, Sahilpreet Singh, alias Karan, a resident of Devi Daspura village, has been identified as the individual who retrieved the consignment. The police have nominated him as an accused and are actively working towards his arrest. Further investigations are underway to track both the upstream and downstream links of the smuggling network.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Border Range Satinder Singh, along with Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amritsar Rural Maninder Singh, disclosed at a press conference that police teams had acted on a credible intelligence input received during Naka Bandi. The information suggested that Sahilpreet Singh had retrieved a heroin consignment from across the border. Acting promptly, teams from Jandiala Police Station conducted an intelligence-led operation and recovered 23 packets of heroin, each weighing 1 kg, concealed in a jute bag at a specific location in Devi Daspura village.

Investigations revealed that the accused was directly in contact with US-based smuggler Jasmit Singh, who had arranged the consignment. Jasmit has a criminal history, with cases registered against him under the Arms Act and for attempted murder.

The DIG confirmed that efforts were ongoing to apprehend Sahilpreet Singh.

A case has been registered under Section 21C of the NDPS Act at Jandiala Police Station in Amritsar Rural on Tuesday.
