Two Drug Peddlers Injured in Police Encounters During Amritsar Crackdown
As part of an ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking, two drug peddlers were injured in separate police encounters in Amritsar, officials confirmed on Monday.
In the first incident, Amritsar Police apprehended a drug peddler identified as Sahil, alias Neela, following an exchange of fire in the Palm Garden Colony link road area late Sunday night. A resident of Faizpura, Sahil sustained a bullet injury to his leg after police retaliated when he attempted to escape.
Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar stated that Sahil had multiple criminal cases registered against him, including three under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and one under the Arms Act. During the operation, police recovered a .32-caliber pistol and a motorcycle used in his escape attempt.
In a separate encounter, police arrested another drug peddler, Jagtar Singh, who was found in possession of a significant quantity of ICE (crystal methamphetamine).
While being escorted under the jurisdiction of the Gharinda police station for further drug recovery, Singh attempted to flee. Despite multiple warnings, he continued his escape attempt, prompting police to open fire. He sustained a bullet wound to his leg and was later taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
Officials stated that search operations are still underway in the area to recover additional narcotics and dismantle the drug trafficking network.
