Toll Rates to Increase by Rs 5–15 at Over 50 Plazas in North India from April 1

Starting April 1 at midnight, road users in Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh will have to pay more at major toll plazas, as the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has revised user fee rates across the region. The increase ranges from Rs 5 to Rs 15, depending on the vehicle category and location.

In the Tricity region, toll rates have gone up at several key plazas, including:

  • Azizpur Toll Plaza (Zirakpur-Patiala section, NH-07)

  • Dhareri Jattan Toll Plaza (Zirakpur-Patiala section, NH-64)

  • Bhagomajra Toll Plaza (Kharar-Ludhiana section, NH-5)

  • Ghulal Toll Plaza (Chandigarh-Kharar-Ludhiana section, NH-5)

  • Jaloli Toll Plaza (Saha-Barwala-Panchkula section, NH-07 and NH-344)

However, Dappar Toll Plaza on the Chandigarh-Ambala highway remains unaffected by this revision.

At Azizpur, for instance, the toll for trucks and buses has gone up by Rs 5 for a single day’s round trip. Rates for smaller vehicles like cars, jeeps, and vans remain unchanged.

NHAI Project Director Aashim Bansal confirmed that toll rates at more than 50 plazas in Punjab and Haryana have been revised. The new charges are part of an annual nationwide adjustment based on inflation, as measured by the Wholesale Price Index (WPI), in line with the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008.

For Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) toll plazas, a separate rate revision typically occurs in September. The toll calculations factor in road type, length, structures like bridges or tunnels, and bypasses, depending on the model under which the project was built—whether EPC, HAM, BOT-Annuity, or BOT-Toll.
