The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) executive committee, in a meeting on Monday, unanimously rejected the resignation of Harjinder Singh Dhami from the post of president and urged him to resume his duties immediately.
Meanwhile, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has softened its stance against dissident members, calling for unity within the party. A day before the Akal Takht-monitored panel is set to launch its membership drive from the Takht premises, SAD working president Balwinder Singh Bhunder extended an olive branch by offering membership forms to the rebel faction.
Addressing a press conference, Bhunder urged all Akali factions to set aside their differences, emphasizing that unity within the party was essential for its strength and future.
During the SGPC executive committee meeting, chaired by senior vice president Raghujit Singh Virk, members collectively decided to reject Dhami’s resignation. The committee also resolved to personally appeal to Dhami, with all members planning to visit his residence in Hoshiarpur later that day to persuade him to return as SGPC chief.
