SGPC Condemns Attack on Sikh Businessmen in Rishikesh, Demands Swift Action

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has strongly condemned the attack on two Sikh businessmen and the vandalism of their showroom by a mob in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand. The incident, which occurred on Sunday, has sparked widespread outrage, with demands for immediate action against those responsible.

In response, SGPC chief secretary Kulwant Singh Mannan has written to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and the state police, urging them to take strict and prompt action against the perpetrators.

Mannan emphasized that viral footage of the incident clearly shows a mob assaulting the Sikh traders and pelting stones at their showroom, resulting in extensive damage. He further highlighted the disturbing act of one attacker forcibly removing a victim’s turban—a gesture considered deeply sacrilegious—and desecrating his Kes (unshorn hair).

Calling for the inclusion of charges related to hurting religious sentiments, Mannan urged authorities to conduct a fair and thorough investigation. He demanded the identification of all those involved and immediate legal action against them.
