Punjab Police Recover Over 14 Kg Heroin Worth ₹70 Crore in Statewide Crackdown

In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Punjab Police on Sunday recovered 14.53 kg of heroin—valued at over ₹70 crore—from multiple locations across three districts. The recoveries include a seizure from the premises of a government school, highlighting the audacity of smugglers operating in the region.

The operation comes just days after a massive 23 kg heroin bust in Amritsar, linked to a smuggling network allegedly run by US-based trafficker Jasmit Singh alias Lucky.

In the Ferozepur district, police arrested Aakash alias Chotu and seized 8 kg of heroin from his car. The arrest was made during a targeted operation in the Mallanwala area, based on specific intelligence inputs, said SSP Bhupinder Singh.

In a separate raid in Tarn Taran district, two suspects — Hardeep Singh alias Deep and Harjeet Singh, both residents of Thathi Sohal village — were arrested with 6 kg of heroin. According to DIG (Ferozepur Range) Harmanbir Singh Gill, the duo had links to Pakistan-based smugglers, identified as Billa and Shah, who were sending drug consignments into India via drones.

Meanwhile, in Fazilka district, a joint operation by the Punjab Police and Border Security Force (BSF) led to the recovery of 535 grams of heroin from the premises of Government Senior Secondary School, Chak Wazida, in Jalalabad subdivision.

Jalalabad DSP Jatinder Singh stated that the school was searched following a tip-off. The packet of heroin was reportedly dropped by a drone from Pakistan. A case has been registered, and investigations are ongoing.

The recent spate of drug seizures underlines the growing threat of cross-border narcotics smuggling and the increasing use of drones to deliver illicit consignments.
