On Eid, CM Bhagwant Mann Vows to Keep Hatred Out of Punjab, Announces Key Development Projects for Malerkotla
On the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann reaffirmed his government’s commitment to maintaining peace and harmony in the state, stating that the seeds of hatred would not be allowed to take root.
Speaking at a celebratory event in Malerkotla, Mann said, “From this pious land, blessed by Guru Gobind Singh Ji in response to the ‘haa da naara’ raised by Nawab Sher Singh in support of the younger Sahibzadas, I assure you that while we will allow many things to flourish in Punjab, hatred will not be one of them.”
Mann blamed past governments for dividing people and neglecting development, especially in rural areas. Highlighting one such failure, he said public transport services to villages had been withdrawn over the years. To address this, he announced a new initiative where unemployed youth will be given permits for minibuses, along with financial support for vehicle purchases on easy terms.
Turning his focus to Malerkotla, Punjab’s youngest district, the CM revealed that Rs 150–200 crore had been earmarked for infrastructure development. Ongoing and upcoming projects include:
-
A Government Medical College
-
A Government College for Girls
-
New administrative office buildings
-
Construction of link roads
-
Strengthening of civic amenities
Mann further elaborated on the medical college project, stating that land acquisition from the Union Government is nearing completion. The college, to be built with a 60:40 funding ratio, will offer 100 MBBS seats. The local Civil Hospital will also be upgraded to accommodate 150–200 beds as part of the plan.
The event was attended by Sangrur MP Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, Malerkotla MLA Mohammad Jamil Ur Rahman, and Amargarh MLA Jaswant Singh Gajjanmajra, among other dignitaries.
