In a major crackdown on drug-related activities, Kapurthala Police have launched an extensive campaign as part of the Punjab government’s ‘Yudh Nashe Virodh’ initiative. Starting Saturday, police teams carried out large-scale raids in drug-affected areas across the district.
A substantial police force was deployed to ensure the operation's effectiveness. Speaking to The Tribune, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kapurthala, Gaurav Toora, emphasized the adoption of a three-pronged approach—Enforcement, De-Addiction, and Prevention (EDP)—to tackle the drug menace.
SSP Toora highlighted that police teams are conducting surprise checks and tracking down criminals who had previously evaded arrest. He issued a strong warning to drug smugglers, urging them to either leave the state or reintegrate into mainstream society. At the same time, he assured that authorities are offering assistance to drug-addicted youths willing to recover and quit substance abuse.
As part of the Prevention strategy, the police will collaborate with the health and education departments to launch awareness campaigns aimed at educating young people about the dangers of drug abuse.
The ongoing crackdown includes intensive operations in Kapurthala and Phagwara, where officers are questioning suspicious individuals and conducting thorough vehicle inspections. The campaign is being led by SP Gurpreet Singh Gill in Kapurthala and SP Rupinder Kaur Bhatti in Phagwara, SSP Toora confirmed.
