Harjinder Singh Dhami to Resume SGPC Presidency After Meeting SAD Leaders

Amritsar: Harjinder Singh Dhami, who had resigned as SGPC president on February 17, has now decided to resume his duties following a meeting with former SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal and party working president Balwinder Singh Bhunder.

Dhami’s resignation was rejected by the SGPC executive committee yesterday, paving the way for his return.

Closed-Door Meeting with SAD Leaders

After a closed-door discussion with Sukhbir Badal, Bhunder, Janmeja Singh Sekhon, and several SGPC members, Dhami announced his decision to continue in office.

“For a long time, SAD leadership, Singh Sahibans, and SGPC members had been urging me to withdraw my resignation. Yesterday, my resignation was formally rejected by the SGPC executive committee. Today, after meeting with SAD leaders, I have decided to resume my responsibilities within the next three to four days,” Dhami stated.

Sukhbir Badal Welcomes Dhami’s Decision

Welcoming Dhami’s return, Sukhbir Singh Badal praised his commitment to the Panth and the Sikh community, emphasizing the need for unity against external interference.

“The Panth is facing direct and indirect attacks, and we must stand together to counter them. There have been continuous efforts to weaken the SGPC, starting with the formation of Takht Sri Hazur Sahib, Takht Sri Patna Sahib, the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, and later the Haryana Gurdwara Management Committee,” Sukhbir said.

He also commended Dhami’s dedication to serving the community, adding that both the SAD and the Sikh Panth take pride in his leadership.

Bhunder Hails Dhami as a Strong Leader

Balwinder Singh Bhunder highlighted Dhami’s long-standing association with the party and the SGPC, describing him as a courageous, religious, and honest leader.

“Dhami is a highly respected figure in the Panth. Given the current challenges, the Sikh community needs leaders like him. On behalf of the party, I personally appealed to him to resume his sewa, and we are grateful that he has agreed,” Bhunder stated.

With Dhami set to officially resume his role in the coming days, his leadership is expected to play a crucial role in strengthening the SGPC amid ongoing challenges.
