DGP Gaurav Yadav Condemns Assault on Army Colonel, Urges Public Not to Frame Issue as Army vs Police

Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, in his first public statement regarding the alleged assault on an Army Colonel and his son in Patiala, strongly condemned the incident on Monday. However, he appealed to the public and media not to frame the matter as a confrontation between the Army and the police.

Addressing a press conference, DGP Yadav emphasized the need to maintain harmony between the two key security institutions. “I come from an Army family and hold the defence forces in the highest regard. At the same time, I have immense respect for the Punjab Police, which has worked shoulder-to-shoulder with the Army in joint operations and in the fight against terrorism in Punjab,” he said. “This should not be turned into a clash between two vital pillars of national security.”

The DGP also addressed growing criticism over reports of theft of belongings and tractor-trailers belonging to protesting farmers during the March 19 crackdown at Shambhu and Khanauri. He assured the public that there would be zero tolerance in such cases. “Strict action will be taken against anyone found involved in theft or misconduct during the crackdown,” he stated.

The statement comes amid increasing public scrutiny and calls for accountability over the handling of recent protests and the alleged police assault incident, which has triggered widespread concern across the state.
