Colonel Bath Assault Case: Family to Meet Punjab CM, Demand CBI Probe

A day after meeting Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who assured them of “all possible assistance to get justice,” the family of Colonel Pushpinder Singh Bath is expected to meet Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday at noon.

The CM, who is scheduled to attend an Eid-related event in Malerkotla, will meet the family that has been demanding the transfer of Patiala SSP Nanak Singh and a CBI investigation into the alleged assault on Colonel Bath and his son Angad Singh on March 13.

The meeting comes in the wake of an indefinite protest staged last week by the family, joined by retired army officers and social activists, outside the Patiala district administrative complex. Although the district administration had assured action on the third day of the protest, the family remained firm in their demand for a central agency probe.

“All we want is justice, which we believe cannot happen under the Patiala police,” said Jaswinder Kaur, wife of Colonel Bath. “The Punjab police appear determined to shield the 12 policemen involved in the attack. Only an independent body like the CBI can uncover the truth.”

Kaur reiterated her stance following the meeting with the Defence Minister, emphasizing her lack of faith in the local police and underlining the need for a fair and transparent investigation.

Meanwhile, the Punjab and Haryana High Court last week questioned the state government over the delay in registering an FIR in the case, further intensifying scrutiny on the handling of the incident.

The family continues to press for accountability and transparency in the case, urging state and central authorities to intervene for a just outcome.
