Centre Approves Two Major Heritage Projects in Punjab Honouring Martyrs Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev

The Central Government has given the green light to two landmark development projects in Punjab aimed at commemorating the heroic sacrifices of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Shaheed Rajguru, and Shaheed Sukhdev. These projects, located at Khatkar Kalan and Hussainiwala, were officially announced on Tuesday by Ravneet Bittu, Union Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing Industries.

In his statement, Bittu expressed heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, for their support and commitment to preserving India’s cultural legacy.

The two projects include:

  1. Cultural and Heritage Stretch – A Symbol of Peace and Harmony at Hussainiwala Border (Ferozepur)
Recognised by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism as a vital heritage destination, the Hussainiwala Border in Ferozepur—where the last rites of the martyrs were performed—will be developed as a cultural landmark.
In collaboration with the Punjab state government, the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee has approved a budget of Rs 24.99 crores for this initiative. The project aims to preserve the historical and emotional significance of the site while promoting it as a symbol of peace, unity, and national pride.

  2. Heritage Street – A Tribute to Shaheed-e-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh at Khatkar Kalan, SBS Nagar
The second project focuses on Khatkar Kalan, the ancestral village of Bhagat Singh, located in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district. A “Heritage Street” will be developed here to honour the life and legacy of one of India’s most revered freedom fighters.
As part of the Government of India’s vision to develop globally recognized iconic tourist destinations, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism has allocated Rs 53.45 crores for this project. It aims to transform the village into a vibrant cultural hub that educates and inspires visitors from across the world.

These initiatives underscore the government’s commitment to preserving the spirit of India’s freedom struggle and ensuring future generations remain connected to the nation’s rich heritage.
