CM Bhagwant Mann Calls for Communal Harmony, Announces Major Development Projects in Malerkotla
On the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann emphasized the need for communal harmony and peace, stating that the state has no space for hatred and has already suffered due to the divisive politics of traditional parties.
Addressing a large gathering in Malerkotla, Mann highlighted the city’s historical significance and spiritual legacy. “Malerkotla was blessed by Guru Gobind Singh Ji for eternal peace, in response to Nawab Sher Mohammad Khan’s courageous support of the younger Sahibzadas. I want to assure everyone that hatred will never be allowed to take root in Punjab,” he said.
The Chief Minister appreciated the unprecedented turnout of the Muslim community for Eid prayers and lauded their collective prayer to rid the state of the drug menace.
Taking aim at previous governments for neglecting rural transportation, Mann announced that permits for mini-buses would be issued to unemployed youth to enhance public transport in villages. He further revealed that development grants ranging from ₹150 to ₹200 crore had been sanctioned for various projects in Malerkotla. These include the construction of a government medical college, a government college for girls, a new administrative complex, and link roads across the district.
He added that the land acquisition process for the medical college is nearly complete. “The college will be built under a 60:40 funding model and will offer 100 MBBS seats,” he said. Additionally, the Malerkotla Civil Hospital will be upgraded to a 200-bed facility.
The event was also attended by Sangrur MP Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, Malerkotla MLA Mohammad Jamil Ur Rahman, and Amargarh legislator Jaswant Singh Gajjanmajra.
