Norwegian Princess Ingrid Alexandra to Study at University of Sydney

The future monarch of Norway heads to Australia for university, enrolling in an international relations and political economy program.

Princess Ingrid Alexandra of Norway, second in line to the Norwegian throne, is set to begin her university studies in Australia. The 21-year-old royal will join the University of Sydney from August, where she will pursue a full-time degree in international relations and political economy.

According to a statement from Norway’s royal household, Princess Ingrid will reside in a student dormitory on campus, embracing student life alongside her peers. "Her Royal Highness looks forward to dedicating herself to her studies in the years to come," the statement read.

The princess is the daughter of Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit, and the granddaughter of King Harald V of Norway. Her mother, Mette-Marit, also spent time in Australia as a student, attending Wangaratta High School in Victoria for a year during her senior schooling.

The University of Sydney has welcomed the announcement. Vice-President Kirsten Andrews expressed excitement at the royal addition to the student body. “We know how valuable the campus experience is and we hope the Princess makes the most of our beautiful grounds and surrounds, clubs and societies, as well as our proximity to the best Sydney has to offer,” she said.

Raised in Oslo, Princess Ingrid Alexandra recently completed 15 months of military service, serving as an engineer soldier and rifleman. Her official biography notes a strong interest in environmental protection and climate change—areas likely to inform her studies and future roles.

As she embarks on this new chapter, the young royal brings a blend of tradition and modern ambition to the international stage.
