Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian Confronted by Farmers in Gaggar Village
Punjab Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian faced a tense situation during his visit to Gaggar village in the Lambi Assembly segment on Tuesday, where he was confronted by a group of protesting farmers. Videos of the exchange have since surfaced online.
Leaders from the Punjab Khet Mazdoor Union and the Bharti Kisan Union (Ekta-Ugrahan), including Kala Singh and Malkit Singh Gaggar, claimed the minister avoided giving clear answers to their questions. The farmers said they had asked Khudian to clarify the government’s stance on the handling of previous farmer protests, particularly those at the Shambhu and Khanauri border points with Haryana, from where demonstrators were forcibly removed earlier this year.
In one of the videos, the minister is seen appealing to the farmer leaders to visit his residence for peaceful dialogue rather than confronting him during public events.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Khet Mazdoor Union announced plans to intensify their agitation. They have declared that a protest will be held outside the residence of Cabinet Minister Baljit Kaur in Malout on May 30.
